NTSA Launches Safety Crackdown, Arrests 24 Drivers in Kakamega

The National Transport and Safety Authority has apprehended 24 drivers in Kakamega for various traffic offences, including operating vehicles fittedp with defective speed limiters.

According to the authority, the operation was part of efforts to enforce road safety regulations and curb risky behaviour among motorists.

NTSA warned public service vehicle and commercial vehicle owners against operating vehicles with faulty speed limiters, saying the devices are critical in protecting drivers, passengers and other road users.

“All PSV and commercial vehicle owners are required to ensure their speed limiters are functional at all times,” the authority said.

The authority also emphasised the need for motorists to ensure their vehicles comply with safety requirements, warning that defective speed limiters could expose road users to danger.

The crackdown comes at a time when NTSA is intensifying enforcement operations along major transport corridors as part of its efforts to reduce road crashes.

The campaign was launched on October 26, 2026, by NTSA in collaboration with law enforcement agencies under the name Msimu Bila Ajali, Usalama Barabarani.

The initiative seeks to prevent road crashes through increased enforcement, driver and passenger sensitisation and safety inspections conducted during the day and at night.
