Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has ruled out seeking the Deputy President position ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying his focus is on developing ideas to move the country forward rather than pursuing political positions.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, November 4, Kang’ata said he believes political leadership should be guided by a clear platform and plans for the country’s development.
The governor said he intends to share his ideas with DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Kang’ata also said he would prioritise his responsibilities in Murang’a County, noting that significant work remained unfinished.
The governor further dismissed claims that Gachagua is a political bully, recalling an incident in Ol Kalou where the former Deputy President warned him against visiting the constituency.
Kang’ata said he ignored the warning, later sustaining injuries when he and others were attacked. He described Gachagua as a truthful person whose advice he should have taken seriously.
Additionally, Kang’ata defended Gachagua against criticism from Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi, arguing that Gachagua deserved recognition for supporting a candidate in the Mbeere North political contest.
He also challenged Muturi to reflect on his recent electoral defeats, saying the losses should prompt him to reassess his political approach.
