Trans Nzoia County Deputy Speaker Mwale Obed Mahanga was allegedly apprehended on Monday, November 3, 2026, after being accused of a plot to block President William Ruto’s motorcade during his Kitale tour on Friday, October 16.
The arrest was confirmed by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who has been in a fierce feud with the Head of State.
He was reportedly held at the Kapenguria Police Station overnight.

“Obed Mwale has been locked up in a cell, waiting for arraignment in court tomorrow at 9am. Some of the charges are obstructing Ruto’s motorcade while in Kitale,” Natembeya stated.
According to Governor Natembeya, the MCA is facing other charges, including an accusation that he has sponsored goons to disrupt Kenya-Kwanza rallies in the county.
The Trans Nzoia governor also confirmed that his hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
The Deputy Speaker, who is also the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Matisi Ward, will be reportedly represented by a team of volunteer lawyers allied to the Linda Mwananchi team.
