Sifuna Responds to Critics After Meeting Gachagua at Wamunyoro

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has criticised leaders in the Kenya Kwanza administration for repeatedly directing insults at him, questioning why members of the government appeared increasingly hostile towards him.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 21, during the requiem mass of the late Ambassador Burudi Nabwera, Sifuna welcomed calls by veteran politician Francis Ole Kaparo for an end to insults in political discourse.

The senator described himself as a frequent target of attacks from government leaders and their allies, citing instances where he faced personal criticism after raising questions about government policies, including the housing programme.

Sifuna accused pro-government politicians of contradicting their calls for peace during church services and funerals by engaging in insults against opposition leaders during political rallies.

He urged political leaders to focus on policy discussions rather than personal attacks, arguing that public debate should centre on issues affecting Kenyans.

The Linda Mwananchi movement leader also dismissed allegations that his team intended to cause disruptions during Nabwera’s funeral.

He maintained that the group would avoid confrontations at public gatherings, even when its members faced provocation.

Sifuna said the movement would instead redirect political discussions towards national issues and the concerns affecting ordinary citizens.

The senator also addressed criticism surrounding his recent meeting with Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua at Wamunyoro.

He challenged attempts to discourage political engagement between leaders from different regions, describing such efforts as tribalistic and regressive.

Sifuna expressed confidence that Kenya could restore a sense of national unity similar to the period around independence in 1963, when he believes citizens placed greater emphasis on their shared Kenyan identity.

He maintained that political leaders should encourage cross-regional engagement and reject divisions based on ethnicity as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
