Moi University has introduced new dress code rules that restrict students from wearing mini skirts, ripped jeans, skin-tight trousers, transparent clothing, slippers and other outfits deemed inappropriate on campus.
In an internal memo dated Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Dean of Students Alice Mutai directed all students to dress decently and appropriately while within the institution.
In the Memo, the University listed micro and mini skirts, skin-tight trousers, ragged, torn or ripped jeans, and cropped blouses and T-shirts among the clothes that students should not wear.
“I wish to bring to your attention Article 3.1.1 a, c, d and e of the rules and regulations governing the conduct and discipline of students,” the statement read.
“Students are expected to dress decently in modest and appropriate attire. However, we have observed and noted with concern the indecent dressing by some of you,” it added.
Additionally, the cover low-cut blouses and dresses, micro shorts, transparent dresses or attire, off-shoulder clothes and sleeveless T-shirts that show bra straps.
Students have also been prohibited from wearing T-shirts bearing obscene writings, sagging trousers and clothing that reveals the chest.
Moi University clarified that slippers, crocs and all plastic shoes are not considered official wear and should therefore not be worn within the institution.
Furthermore, the Dean warned that students who disregard the dress code could face disciplinary action under the university’s rules and regulations governing student conduct and discipline.
