The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the Migwani Ward by-election for Tuesday, November 17, 2026.
In a gazette notice issued on Wednesday, September 23, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon announced that the poll follows a vacancy declared by the Speaker of the Kitui County Assembly on August 6, 2026.
Ethekon directed public officers seeking to contest for the Migwani Ward MCA seat to resign from their positions within seven days.

Political parties planning to field candidates must submit the names of aspirants participating in their respective party primaries, alongside the dates of the primaries, to IEBC by Wednesday, September 30.
Independent candidates are also required to submit their names and symbols by the same deadline.
The commission has set October 21 as the start of the campaign period, which will run until November 14.
Campaign activities will be permitted between 7am and 6pm each day.
The Migwani Ward MCA seat became vacant after Harrison Mawia resigned to take up the position of clerk in the Kitui County Assembly.
Mawia, 35, was sworn in as clerk on August 6 by Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Katisya, succeeding Elijah Mutambuki.
