Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has criticised the administration of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) following the abrupt cancellation of a student-organised Law, Policy and Governance forum.
Sifuna noted that he travelled to the university’s Karen campus on Thursday, September 17, after receiving an invitation from the student leadership to attend the inaugural event.
According to the Senator, the forum was cancelled after the invited guests had already arrived at the institution. He said the delegation was subsequently denied entry into the university.

Sifuna questioned the decision to cancel the event, describing the move as unnecessary and uncalled for.
The Senator’s latest incident comes months after he and seven other politicians and activists were denied entry into Angola.
The group, which included individuals from Kenya, Uganda, Ukraine and Ethiopia, had travelled to Luanda in March 2025 after receiving an invitation from Adalberto Costa Júnior, the leader of Angola’s main opposition party, UNITA.
The delegation was expected to enter the country through 4 de Fevereiro International Airport but was stopped by Angolan authorities upon arrival.
The visit had been arranged by UNITA, which had formally requested border visas for the delegation through Angola’s Migration and Foreign Services.
In the request, UNITA said it would take responsibility for the visitors during their stay in Angola.
Sifuna protested the decision at the time, saying the group had been invited by the opposition party before being denied entry by the Angolan government.
The JKUAT incident has now placed Sifuna in another dispute involving access to a planned public forum, with the Senator raising questions over the university administration’s decision to cancel the student event.
