Opposition leaders have demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clean up the voter register ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, September 15, the leaders called on the electoral agency to hire a reputable firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of the voter register.
Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi said the IEBC should procure the audit firm by November 15, 2026, and complete the cleaning of the voter register by February 15, 2027.

The opposition leaders further demanded that the IEBC publish the full voter register by March 10, 2027, to allow voters and political parties to scrutinise the details ahead of the election.
They also called for the inspection and verification of the register to be completed by April 10, 2027.
The opposition leaders said the People’s Coalition would undertake its own comprehensive inspection of the voter register by the April deadline.
The demands come amid growing scrutiny of the IEBC’s preparations for the 2027 General Election, particularly following claims by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Hassan Omar that deceased voters could be used to influence next year’s presidential election.
The opposition leaders’ demands are aimed at ensuring the voter register is accurate, transparent and free from irregularities before the country heads to the polls.
The IEBC is responsible for maintaining and updating the voter register as part of its constitutional mandate to conduct and supervise elections in Kenya.
