Detectives have seized 700 litres of illicit chang’aa and arrested a suspect during a patrol operation in Bondeni area, Teso South Sub-County, Busia County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from DCI Busia and Teso South, working alongside Kenya Police Service officers from Adungosi Police Station, intercepted the consignment after stopping a speeding Toyota Probox during the operation.

The vehicle, registration number KDB 387M, was being driven by 43-year-old Brian Wandera Aroge.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 35 jerricans, each with a capacity of 20 litres, all containing chang’aa. The recovered consignment has an estimated street value of KSh175,000.

The suspect was arrested and, together with the vehicle and the seized illicit brew, was escorted to Adungosi Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending his arraignment in court.

The DCI said the operation is part of its continued efforts to curb the manufacture, transportation and distribution of illicit brews across the country.

The agency also urged members of the public to continue providing information to law enforcement officers to support the fight against illegal alcohol and help keep communities safe.
