Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced increased Authority to Incur Expenditure (AIE) allocations for chiefs and assistant chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen local administration.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday, August 4, Murkomen said the government had secured funding to enhance the quarterly allocations beginning in the first quarter of the current financial year.
Under the revised allocations, assistant chiefs will now receive KSh30,000 per quarter, up from KSh15,000, while chiefs’ quarterly allocation has been increased from KSh30,000 to KSh50,000.

The Interior CS said the additional funding was in line with a government directive aimed at improving the operations of chiefs and assistant chiefs in the discharge of their duties.
Murkomen also announced that the government will launch a nationwide training programme for village elders immediately after the event.
He said the programme will equip village elders with digital literacy and leadership skills to enhance service delivery and strengthen grassroots governance.
