Photos from the hospital reveal Shiku with parts of her hands and fingers stitched, indicating the severity of the attack.

Rongai Police Commander Cecilia Kemboi confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway to locate and apprehend pastor Njau.

Taking to the social media, Governor Anne Waiguru has condemned the attack, asking the police to run after the cleric and bring him to book.

“I wish to condemn the tragic incident in Nakuru, where a man attacked his wife over a domestic dispute. Whatever the disagreement, we should never resort to violence. Gender-based violence has no place in our society. I call on investigative authorities to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure justice is served. I also pray for Shiko’s healing & quick recovery,” she posted on X.

The number of femicide cases in the country has increased according to the recent report presented.

This incident comes as President William Ruto recently addressed the issue of femicide, emphasising his government’s commitment to curbing the trend.

The president allocated  100 million to provide survivors with secure shelters, medical care, and psychological support.

The government moreover plans to establish safe homes across the country to offer immediate refuge and care for victims.

The government’s plan has moreover received  support from the catholic church with bishops promising to support the government.

“In recent months, Kenya has witnessed a troubling pattern of women losing their lives in gruesome murders and under unclear circumstances. Such acts are not only a grave violation of human rights but also a deeply concerning trend that warrants urgent attention. While we support the government’s actions in addressing this menace, we, the Archdiocese of Nairobi, in collaboration with the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action call upon Christians and people of goodwill to act as our sister’s keeper.”
