Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested after a dramatic high-speed chase along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway ended with detectives recovering cannabis worth an estimated KSh3.3 million.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Nakuru, working alongside the K9 Unit, intercepted a blue Nissan Note, registration number KDN 836H, following an intelligence-led operation.
According to the DCI, detectives had laid a trap for the vehicle after receiving information linking it to suspected drug trafficking activities.

However, when officers signaled the driver to stop, the suspect sped off, triggering a high-speed pursuit along the busy highway.
The DCI said the driver continued fleeing even after one of the vehicle’s front tyres was deflated. During the chase, the suspect made a dangerous U-turn at the KFA Roundabout before driving towards the Eveready area on the damaged tyre in an attempt to evade arrest.
The pursuit came to an end after the occupants abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Detectives quickly caught up with them and arrested the two suspects before they could flee the scene.
A subsequent search of the abandoned Nissan Note led to the recovery of five sacks containing 110 kilograms of cannabis sativa, with the narcotics estimated to be worth KSh3.3 million.
The two suspects were identified as Emmanuel Wesonga and Stephen Daria.
The DCI said the suspects remain in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, the recovered cannabis has been detained as exhibit material as investigations continue.
