Motorists have been urged to brace for a month-long traffic disruption after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced the partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way.
In a statement, KeNHA said the Mombasa-bound lanes between Global Trade Centre (GTC) and Villarosa Kempinski will be partially closed from Friday, July 31, 2026, to Monday, August 31, 2026.
The temporary closure is expected to affect thousands of motorists travelling to and from more than 10 estates along the corridor, including Westlands and Parklands.
Other Nairobi estates set to be affected by the road works include Kangemi, Mountain View, Kitisuru, Loresho, Kyuna, Spring Valley, Highridge, Muthangari, Lower Kabete and parts of Riverside.
According to KeNHA, the temporary closure is intended to allow maintenance works on the affected stretch, with motorists expected to use the remaining open lanes during the construction period.
Following the disruption, KeNHA advised motorists and other road users to consider alternative routes to help ease congestion and minimise traffic disruptions, especially during peak hours.
Motorists have further been urged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed along the affected section to manage traffic safely.
