Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has directed contractors undertaking the construction of the Kithimani ESP Fresh Produce Market in Yatta Constituency, Machakos County, to complete the project within the next 90 days.
In an update shared on Wednesday, July 22, Kindiki said he inspected the progress of the market and established that construction had reached 70 per cent completion.
Following the inspection, the Deputy President instructed the contractors to fast-track the remaining works to ensure the facility is completed within the set timeline.

He noted that the government is keen on having the market operational before the end of the year to enable small-scale traders, including fresh produce vendors and Mama Mboga operators, to begin using the facility.
According to Kindiki, the market forms part of the government’s broader plan to improve trading infrastructure across the country by providing modern, well-equipped markets that support small businesses and enhance local economic activity.
Once completed, the Kithimani ESP Fresh Produce Market is expected to provide a conducive and organized trading environment for farmers, fresh produce vendors and other small-scale traders in the region.
The facility is also expected to improve access to markets for agricultural produce, reduce post-harvest losses, boost incomes for local traders and farmers, and create employment opportunities through increased commercial activity.
The government has been rolling out similar market projects across various counties as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots economies and provide traders with better working conditions.
