A man has been arrested after detectives recovered 990 litres of ethanol, 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition and assorted firearm accessories during an intelligence-led operation in Nakuru County.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 21, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers conducted a raid at a homestead in Cottage Estate, Kiamunyi, Rongai Sub-county, following a tip-off about an illegal second-generation alcohol manufacturing operation.
During the operation, detectives discovered 990 litres of ethanol concealed inside a septic tank within the compound in what investigators believe was an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement officers.

A further search of the suspect’s house led to the recovery of a Ceska pistol magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a bulletproof vest, a firearm cleaning kit, two pistol holsters and assorted firearm accessories.
Officers also recovered materials suspected to have been used in the packaging of counterfeit alcoholic drinks, including branded stickers, empty bottles and bottle tops.
The suspect, identified as Geoffrey Muriithi Kerinya, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

According to the DCI, the suspect is undergoing processing ahead of being arraigned in court, while the recovered ethanol, ammunition and other items have been retained as exhibits to aid investigations.
The latest operation forms part of the DCI’s ongoing crackdown on the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol and other criminal activities across the country.
