Anti-Narcotics Detectives Bust KSh24.7 Million Cannabis Shipment in Voi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects after intercepting a trailer transporting cannabis worth an estimated KSh24.7 million in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The operation was conducted by detectives from the DCI’s Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa and Voi, working jointly with officers from Voi Police Station following an intelligence-led operation.

According to the DCI, officers intercepted a Scania truck towing a trailer within Voi Township after receiving information about the suspected transportation of illegal drugs.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 11 gunny bags containing cannabis weighing a total of 825 kilograms. Authorities estimated the street value of the consignment at approximately KSh24.7 million.

The truck driver, Fredrick Otieno Ogode, and his alleged accomplice, Edwin Ochieng Otieno, were arrested at the scene.

The two suspects were taken into police custody together with the truck and the recovered cannabis. The seized narcotics have been secured as exhibits while the suspects undergo processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

The latest seizure is part of ongoing efforts by the DCI’s Anti-Narcotics Unit to crack down on drug trafficking networks operating across the country.
