Police Wounded in Violent Confrontation During Garissa Raid

Several police officers were irepirtedly injured after they came under attack while carrying out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of three suspects.

According to reports, the trio were found in possession of assorted crude weapons in Garissa County.

The operation was conducted on Wednesday, July 8, in the Bulla Sagaray area of Garissa Town after officers received intelligence about a group allegedly planning to commit criminal activities.

Police officers arrested three members of the group, which reportedly consisted of nine suspects.

However, the said suspects allegedly resisted arrest and turned violent, directly confronting the police officers and injuring several officers during the operation.

However, the number of officers injured or the extent of their injuries, were not confirmed, with the police recovering, assorted crude weapons.

Among the weapons recovered included wooden clubs, sticks and other crude items believed to have been in the suspects’ possession.

Meanwhile, six other suspects managed to escape during the confrontation, prompting police to launch a manhunt as efforts to track them down and arrest them continue.

The three suspects arrested during the raid have been taken into police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges.

Police have further intensified investigations to arrest the remaining suspects.
