Five Missing Activists Rescued in Nairobi, One Yet to Be Found

Vocal Africa has revealed that five out of six human rights activists who went missing following Thursday’s protests have been found and taken to the hospital.

According to the rights group, the activists were located and are receiving medical treatment after going missing for more than 24 hours following their arrest near Parliament buildings.

This comes after Human rights organisations, including the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), raised concerns on Friday after the six were unaccounted for despite visits to several police stations across Nairobi.

According to Vocal Africa, the six were apprehend near Parliament on June 25 protests.

“Five of the comrades who were violently arrested at Parliament yesterday have been located,” Vocal Africa said.

“They were found and are currently in hospital receiving medical treatment for physical injuries”, it added.

According to the vocal group, one of the activists, Davis Lichuma, is still missing.

According to reports, witnesses and fellow activists said the arrests were carried out by plainclothes officers during demonstrations marking the anniversary of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.

They were later taken to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where activists say officers refused to book them in the station records.

Further reports indicate that they were moved from the station later on Thursday to an undisclosed location.
