Airtel Flags Temporary Delays Affecting M-PESA Airtime Transactions

Airtel Kenya has alerted customers to intermittent delays affecting airtime and data bundle purchases made through the M-PESA mobile money platform.

In a customer notice issued on Wednesday, June 24, the telecommunications company said some subscribers may experience delays before purchased airtime or bundles are credited to their Airtel lines after completing payments via M-PESA.

According to Airtel, the issue is linked to the airtime and bundle allocation process, and the company is working closely with the M-PESA team to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

The disruption means that while payments may be successfully processed, customers could have to wait longer than usual before the purchased airtime or internet bundles reflect on their accounts.

To minimise inconvenience, Airtel has encouraged affected subscribers to use Airtel Money as an alternative payment option while efforts to resolve the issue continue.

Customers can purchase airtime or data bundles by dialing *334# on their Airtel line or through the My Airtel App.

They are required to select either the airtime or bundle purchase option, choose their preferred amount or package, and complete the transaction by entering their Airtel Money PIN.

The advisory comes as many Kenyans increasingly rely on mobile money platforms for day-to-day transactions, including purchasing airtime and internet bundles across different mobile networks.

Airtel did not indicate the cause of the delays or provide a timeline for when the service would be fully restored, but assured customers that efforts to resolve the issue were underway.
