President William Ruto has revealed that he has invited Premier League champions Arsenal to visit Kenya following massive celebrations by supporters across Nairobi after the club ended its long wait for the league title.
Speaking during an interview at the G7 Summit in France, the Kenyan Head of State said he was impressed by the scale of celebrations witnessed in the country after Arsenal secured their first Premier League crown in 22 years.
Thousands of Arsenal supporters flooded the streets of Nairobi dressed in the club’s famous red and white colours, waving flags, singing club songs and celebrating the historic achievement. The scenes highlighted the enormous support Arsenal enjoys in Kenya, one of the club’s largest fan bases in Africa.
Ruto, who is a well-known Arsenal supporter, admitted that he was surprised by the size of the celebrations in the capital city.
“Arsenal finally closed the gap and it was a huge celebration. I was shocked in Nairobi,” the President said.
He added that he hopes the North London club can make a trip to Kenya in the near future.
The President confirmed that an official invitation has already been sent to Arsenal, expressing his desire to host the Premier League champions and give Kenyan fans an opportunity to interact with their beloved club.
“I have sent an invitation because I think it would be a great moment for Arsenal to come to Kenya. They have great fans,” Ruto said.
Arsenal’s title triumph sparked celebrations not only in Nairobi but also across different parts of Kenya, with supporters gathering in towns and cities to mark the end of the club’s 22-year wait for Premier League glory. The achievement has strengthened the bond between the club and its passionate Kenyan fan base.
Should Arsenal accept the invitation, the visit would be one of the biggest football events in Kenya in recent years and a memorable occasion for thousands of supporters who have followed the club through decades of success and disappointment.
