Faith Odhiambo Explains Why She Joined Active Politics

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has explained why she decided to venture into active politics, saying meaningful change can only be achieved by participating directly in the law-making process.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, June 17, Odhiambo said her transition from legal advocacy to elective politics was informed by the need to influence legislation and governance at the source rather than challenging decisions after they have already been enacted.

She noted that while the courts play a crucial role in safeguarding constitutional rights, lasting reforms require leaders who are willing to shape laws and policies from within Parliament.

According to Odhiambo, serving as a legislator offers an opportunity to address governance challenges before they escalate into legal disputes.

Odhiambo, who recently joined the Linda Mwananchi movement, said her decision was driven by her long-standing commitment to accountability, constitutionalism and good governance.

She maintained that joining the movement was a continuation of the values she has consistently championed throughout her legal career rather than a politically convenient decision.

She further argued that Linda Mwananchi provides a platform for advancing people-centred policies and strengthening public accountability.

According to Odhiambo, the movement seeks to amplify the voices of ordinary citizens while promoting transparent leadership, respect for human rights and improved governance.

The former LSK president also described the movement as one that appeals across generations, saying it has attracted support from both young and older Kenyans because of its focus on social justice and inclusive leadership.

Odhiambo maintained that her entry into politics is aimed at creating lasting institutional reforms and ensuring that the concerns of wananchi are addressed through legislation and policy rather than relying solely on court interventions.
