Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has expressed support for former Chief Justice David Maraga’s presidential ambitions.
Speaking during the “State of the Nation” address, proposed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna could be a possible running mate to Maraga if he does not vie for the presidency.
Amisi therefore called for an end to tribal-based political formations, arguing that Kenya needs a new generation of leaders capable of steering the country in a different direction.
“There is no going to special groupings. Don’t tell us to come and join you. Let them come and join us, all these tribal groupings,” Amisi said.
Aditionally, the MP urged political leaders and Kenyans to rally behind candidates he believes can unite the country beyond ethnic interests, singling out Maraga as a suitable presidential contender.
According to him, Kenya must break away from its traditional political culture if it hopes to achieve different outcomes.
“They should all come and support people like Maraga. If Sifuna is not going to be a presidential candidate, the only person I will allow Sifuna to deputise is Maraga. We can’t keep on doing the same things the same way and expect different results,” he added.
He further announced plans to launch a political outfit aimed at increasing youth participation in governance and elective politics.
