President William Ruto’s close aide Farouk Kibet has stated that a leader from the Luhya community should become President of Kenya in 2032.
Speaking during a public event in Khwisero, Kakamega County on Friday, June 5, Kibet said it was time the community was given an opportunity to lead the country after years of supporting other regions.
He added that claims that the Luhya community is incapable of producing a president were misguided, pointing to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula as a suitable contender for the top office.

The remarks were made during a gathering attended by several Western Kenya leaders who also renewed calls for increased political representation, including aspirations for the Deputy Presidency in the 2027 general election.
Leaders from the region, including Bungoma Senator Wakoli Wafula, expressed support for Wetang’ula’s political advancement, while encouraging alignment with President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid in anticipation of future political negotiations.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also reaffirmed his support for President Ruto’s re-election, noting expectations of reciprocal political support in subsequent election cycles.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka indicated that leaders from Western Kenya would back President Ruto in 2027, citing ongoing development initiatives in the region.
However, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku cautioned against early debates over the Deputy Presidency, maintaining that the position remains firmly held and that succession discussions should be deferred.
Other leaders from the region echoed earlier sentiments suggesting that Western Kenya could play a significant role in future presidential contests, with some expressing expectations of broader regional alliances ahead of the 2032 elections.
