KNEC Warns Schools of Fine for Missing New Assessment Upload Deadline

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has extended the deadline for uploading Grade 4 and 5 School-Based Assessment (SBA) results to June 15.

According to the council, schools that fail to comply could attract a Ksh1,000 penalty per learner.

This comes after reports that several primary schools had not completed their submissions by the initial May 29 cutoff.

KNEC to fine the school for missing assessment uploads

“Following closure of the portal for the upload of Grade 4 and 5 SBA scores, it has been noted that some institutions either partially uploaded or did not upload their scores. In response to numerous requests received, KNEC has reopened the portal for a further two weeks effective today,” KNEC stated in a notice.

KNEC revealed that the decision is intended to allow schools additional time to finalise uploads amid technical challenges linked to the new Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.

You are requested to utilise this opportunity to complete all pending uploads and address any gaps. Please note that penalties may apply for non-compliance after the extended deadline,” KNEC added.

In addition to the Ksh1,000 per learner penalty, KNEC said failure to meet the new deadline could result in an official audit of a school’s assessment management practices.

As the sector undergoes reforms and the rollout of new systems continues, timely compliance and adaptation have emerged as a challenge across institutions and education levels.
