Chaos escalated at Narok High Court on Tuesday, June 2, as a crowd clashed with police and prison wardens while allegedly attempting to free a murder suspect.
According to reports, the area residents stormed the courts following the detention of Matunke Mayone, who is facing a murder charge.
The death is said to have reportedly occurred during a land dispute in Maji Moto, Narok County.
In a video seen by Whisperswire, the residents could be seen gathered around the court premises, attempting to breach the gates and interrupt proceedings.
This prompted the court operations to be disrupted as police fired shots and deployed teargas to disperse the demonstrators attempting to interfere with the suspect’s custody.

A police vehicle could also be seen arriving as officers moved to restore order, with personnel deployed around the area.
Due to the protests, the High Court ordered that Mayone remain in custody for three days as the case will be mentioned on Thursday, June 4.
Additionally, the court is waiting to verify whether a mental assessment has been conducted before further proceedings continue
