Kenya’s sports media industry is mourning the death of veteran football commentator and radio presenter Diblo Kaberia, whose voice became synonymous with football coverage for thousands of listeners across the country.
Diblo, popularly known for his energetic Swahili commentary and deep football analysis, built a strong reputation over the years as one of Kenya’s most recognizable sports broadcasters. Through his style of delivering matches, many fans often said listening to him felt as though they were watching the game unfold live inside the stadium.
Before his demise, Diblo had been working at Radio Jambo as a sports presenter and football commentator. At the station, he became a familiar face and voice during sports programmes and football discussions, earning respect from colleagues and building a loyal audience among local and international football followers.

Throughout his career, Diblo’s football journey extended far beyond the radio studio. Long before becoming a household media personality, he had played football competitively and featured for clubs including Kieiya Hardrock FC, Mafuko Bombas FC and Congo United FC. His understanding of the game was also shaped by years spent working as a football coach at high school level and serving as a football referee.
His passion for football reportedly began at a young age, with Diblo once revealing that he started practising commentary while still in Standard Six. From then on, he pursued his dream of becoming either a professional footballer or a sports commentator, A journey that eventually made him one of the respected voices in Kenyan sports broadcasting.
Diblo was also widely known for his love of European football, particularly his support for FC Barcelona. He publicly expressed admiration for Andrés Iniesta and remained vocal about football development in Kenya. Locally, he was a longtime supporter of Tusker FC and often shared opinions on improving standards in the local game.
His death marks the end of an era in Kenyan sports radio. Fans, colleagues and the wider football community continue to pay tribute to a man whose voice accompanied countless football moments and whose contribution helped shape sports commentary in Kenya for years.
