A multi-agency security team has thwarted a suspected terror plot along the Garissa-Dadaab Road.
The police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device during a routine multi-agency patrol in the Haji Aden area
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect was intercepted on Saturday, May 23, after officers on patrol spotted him acting suspiciously by the roadside, prompting immediate action in the Haji Aden stretch of Garissa County.
However, when he security team was about to approach, the suspect reportedly took off into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape, triggering a swift chase through the thickets by security officers on patrol.
“A potentially terror mission was thwarted after a multi-agency security team arrested a terror suspect recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Garissa-Dadaab Road,” DCI stated.
Efforts by the suspect to escape arrest proved futile, after a brief but intense chase through dense thickets, and officers managed to overpower and detain him safely without further incident reported on the scene.
The officers eventually cornered and arrested him before returning him to the exact spot where he had been standing.
Later on, the detectives recovered the improvised explosive concealed nearby at the roadside area.
Among other items recovered included military-style jungle attire, including a jacket and trousers, alongside two mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspect’s movements and communications, respectively.
DCI further revealed that the recovered explosive device was safely secured and is being examined as part of ongoing investigations into the intended attack in the region by detectives.
The suspect was taken into custody awaiting arraignment in court.
