Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly demanding the recall of all MPs for an emergency sitting.
Nyoro wants the the sitting to be scheduled in order to discuss proposals that will lower fuel prices by up to Ksh27 per litre.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Nyoro asked for the 350 members to be recalled for an emergency sitting.
“I want to respectfully write to request your consideration for the recall of the National Assembly from recess, pursuant to its mandate under the Constitution and the Standing Orders, to deliberate on urgent proposed legislative amendments aimed at reducing the cost of fuel in the country,” the Kiharu MP wrote to Wetang’ula.
Nyoro is now demanding a special sitting on Monday, May 18, a day when matatu operators and other motorists have scheduled a national strike to protest the historic fuel price hike.
“In the circumstances, I humbly request your office to favourably consider exercising its authority to recall the National Assembly from recess for the purpose of facilitating the tabling, deliberation, and consideration of the said proposed amendments,” he added.
The National Assembly is on its long recess, which runs from May 1 to May 25, 2026. Normal House sittings will officially resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
