DP Kithure Kindiki Departs Nairobi for Uganda

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday morning, May 12, left the country for Uganda where he is set to represent President William Ruto during the swearing-in ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Museveni secured a seventh term in office after winning the January 2026 general election with 71.65 per cent of the vote.

His main challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, garnered 24.72 per cent.

Following Yoweri Museveni’s re-election victory, President Ruto congratulated the Ugandan leader and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing regional development.

In his message, Ruto noted that Museveni’s re-election demonstrated the confidence Ugandans have in his leadership and the ruling National Resistance Movement party.

The Kenyan Head of State noted that the outcome of the January 2026 General Election reflected public trust in Museveni’s administration and expressed optimism that the new term would accelerate Uganda’s growth and transformation.

Ruto also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Uganda, adding that Kenya looked forward to continued cooperation with the neighbouring country on regional and continental development initiatives.

Notably, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is also in Uganda for the inauguration ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.

Uhuru arrived in Kampala on Monday, May 11, ahead of the swearing-in event scheduled for Tuesday, May 12.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, he was received by Kenya’s Ambassador to Uganda, Kipkosgei Toroitic, alongside Ugandan envoy Katureebe Tayebwa.

Museveni secured another term in office following Uganda’s January 15, 2026 General Election, paving the way for the inauguration ceremony in Kampala.
