The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the restoration of traffic along the Iten-Kabarnet Road.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the authority confirmed that the affected section near Kolol has now been cleared and reopened to motorists following disruption caused by a landslide.
The road had been rendered impassable after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall blocked the route, cutting off movement along the key transport corridor.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Iten-Kabarnet Road near Kolol has been restored,” part of the statement read.
“This follows earlier disruption caused by a landslide resulting from ongoing heavy rainfall across the country, which had blocked the affected road section”, the statement added.
The authority noted that engineers worked to remove debris and stabilise the area, allowing for the safe resumption of traffic flow.
Motorists have further been urged to exercise caution when using the route as conditions continue to stabilise.
Additionally, drivers have also been advised to strictly follow directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the road.
KeNHA announced the closure of the same section after heavy rains caused the ground to give way near Kolol on April, 29.
During the closure, motorists were advised to use the alternative route through Iten-Eldoret-Eldama Ravine-Kabarnet to avoid delays.
The incident reportedly occurred amid widespread heavy rainfall being experienced across the country, which has led to flooding and damage to infrastructure in several regions.
