The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has closed a college in Tigoni.
This comes after alleged accusations that the institution is exposing students to ‘fake training and worthless certificates’.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2025, TVETA revealed that the institution, which was operating an Initiative for Skills Empowerment project, was shut down in partnership with the Limuru Sub-County security team for breaching the TVET Act, CAP 210A.
“In partnership with the Limuru Sub-County security team, it has closed the ‘Initiative for Skills Empowerment’ college in Tigoni. The institution was operating illegally without registration, in total breach of the TVET Act CAP 210A,” the statement from TVETA read.
As per the college’s regulatory body, the program, which started as a donor-funded project to provide free youth skills, along yhe way, it was hijacked by a Community Based Organization (CBO)TVETA.
“They began charging fees for courses like Plumbing & Hairdressing, but with NO qualified tutors, NO curriculum, and NO training facilities”, the statement added.
TVETA further revealed that students were left devastated after realizing their certificates were fake.
