Traders along the Meru-Ena highway have been given a 30-day ultimatum to vacate structures encroaching road reserves by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
In a statement, KeNHA directed that all structures encroaching on the road reserves would be taken down in a months’ time.
According to KeNHA, the surveyor was on Monday, April 27, 2026, present at the site alongside her team where several illegal structures were marked to be brought down.
Additionally, a personal notice from KeNHA to the traders was also issued during the visit.
“During the exercise, all illegal structures were clearly marked and formal notices served, requiring their removal within 30 days,” part of the statement from KeNHA read.
“The initiative aims to protect the integrity of the road corridor, prevent further encroachment, and enhance safety for all road users, particularly communities and businesses operating along the route,” the authority added.
Traders were also sensitised on the importance of maintaining the road reserve for safety and future road development.
Among the structures set for demolition are vegetable stalls, business signposts, and retail shops.
