IEBC Sets Date for Ol Kalou Constituency By-Election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

In a notice, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon noted that the decision follows the official declaration of a vacancy in the Ol Kalou Member of Parliament seat by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.

Ethekon went on to highlight that the by-election will proceed in accordance with the declaration of the vacancy in Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County.

He also directed political parties intending to participate in the by-election to submit the names of their candidates, along with the dates of their party primaries, on or before May 4, 2026.

Ethekon announced that campaigns for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election will begin on Monday, May 25, 2026, and conclude on Monday, July 13, 2026.

He noted that daily campaign activities will be conducted between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Earlier, on Wednesday, April 22, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, formally declared the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat vacant.

The declaration followed the death of the area Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away on Sunday, March 29, while receiving specialised treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

The late David Njuguna Kiaraho was buried on Friday, April 10, at his farm in Tigoni.
