Kimani Ichung’wah, the National Assembly Leader of Majority and Kikuyu MP has disclosed that he declined an offer to join President William Ruto’s Cabinet.
Speaking on Thursday, April 23, during an interview, Ichung’wah revealed that President Ruto had offered him key dockets, including Treasury, Transport, and Interior, but he chose to turn them down.
The Kikuyu Member of Parliament noted that his decision was driven by a commitment to his constituents, noting that he was not willing to leave his legislative role unfinished.

“The President told me, ‘Come to the Cabinet Finance is yours if you want it; if not, you can take Transport or Interior.’ I told him, ‘Your Excellency, thank you very much, but let me remain in Parliament,’” Ichung’wah said.
He added that he felt a strong sense of duty to continue serving the people of Kikuyu, emphasizing that he had set clear development goals he intends to see through.
“I didn’t want a CS position. I have a calling to do what I am doing today, and I am very clear in my mind on that. I never wanted to abandon the people of Kikuyu because I had set out an agenda that I needed to fulfil. It is that serious for me,” he said.
According to Ichung’wah, he advised Ruto that his presence was needed in Parliament to provide strong leadership, a move that led to his appointment as Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly.
“I told him he would need me in Parliament because many colleagues wanted Cabinet positions, and the House required firm voices,” he said.
At the same time, Ichung’wah dismissed speculation about a gubernatorial bid in Kiambu, affirming he will instead seek a fourth term as Kikuyu MP in the 2027 General Election.
