Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Tuesday, April 21, proposed that Tuko Kadi patriot Allans Ademba be awarded a state commendation for his role in promoting voter registration.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Sifuna noted that Ademba had successfully mobilised many young people to register as voters through civic education and online campaigns.
He said the achievement was particularly notable given that the Gen Z activist operated without the kind of financial resources available to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Sifuna further acknowledged the challenge of encouraging voter registration in Kenya, describing Ademba as a dedicated and impactful civic actor whose efforts had significantly advanced the Tuko Kadi movement.
Sifuna argued that Allans Ademba should be awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC), suggesting his civic efforts warranted national recognition.
The senator also criticised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over what he described as poor communication during the ongoing mass voter registration exercise.
He faulted the commission for creating confusion after indicating that some voters who registered in 2012 needed to register afresh.
Sifuna took issue with the commission chaired by Erastus Ethekon, and urged the Senate to investigate claims that foreigners were being registered as voters in border counties.
