Massive Power Outage Hits Uganda as National Grid Suffers Disruption

Uganda experienced a widespread electricity blackout on Sunday, April 12, following a sudden disruption to the national grid.

The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) confirmed that the outage occurred at approximately 8:53 a.m., affecting power supply across the country.

In response, technical teams were immediately deployed to manage the situation, with engineers working to restore electricity as quickly as possible.

At the same time, investigations are underway to establish the cause of the disruption.

UETCL assured the public that efforts to stabilize the grid and resume normal power supply are ongoing.

The company also apologised for the disruption and urged the public to remain patient as efforts to restore electricity continue across the country.

“Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) informs the general public that a nationwide power outage occurred on 12th April 2026 at 8:53 AM.Our technical teams have commenced efforts to restore the national grid in the shortest time possible and investigating the cause of the incident. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience during the restoration process,” the statement read.
