The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has vowed to take necessary action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over sensational claims he made in Kiambu County.
In a statement on Sunday, the DCI responded to alleged claims that the authority and President William Ruto were involved in a Ksh500 million scandal linked to the importation of substandard fuel worth over Ksh4 billion.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken note of certain remarks made today by Rigathi Gachagua during the Easter Sunday Service at AIPCA Gakoe Church in Gatundu North, Kiambu County,” the statement read.
According to the claims by Gachagua, the Ksh4 billion fuel scandal was nothing more than a deal gone sour.

Additionally , it was alleged that the embattled former officials – former Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban, former Kenya Pipeline Company Managing Director Joe Sang, and former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director General Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria – were being ‘punished for attempting to go behind the government’s back’.
The former DP further alleged that the sh500 million that had been recovered from the officials’ homes allegedly linked to proceeds from the fake fuel scandal and that the money was surrendered to the president.
Howevee, the DCI described the claims as ‘false and malicious’.
“The allegations levelled against the DCI in the course of Rigathi Gachagua’s speech are false, unfounded, and malicious. The claims he made concerning recoveries and exhibits in regard to the ongoing probe lack any factual or evidentiary basis and are clearly intended to undermine public confidence in a key national law-enforcement institution,” the authority added.
DCI further revealed that it has launched investigations towards the matter and vows to take legal action if Gachagua is found to have violated rules.
