Boxing Bonanza: A Life-Changing Purse Awaits Majembe After Vurugu Triumph

At just 21 years old, Potifus “Majembe” Odipo is walking away from the ring as a newly minted millionaire.

Following his spectacular fourth-round knockout of Ferdinand “Mbavu Destroyer” Omondi on April 4, the young pugilist has secured a massive financial purse and a suite of high-end perks.

While fans are still buzzing from the electric atmosphere of the Vurugu match, easily 2026’s most hyped sporting event, the true scale of Odipo’s winnings is only just coming to light, marking a life-changing turning point for the Kenyan star.

Beyond the glory of the ring, the Head of State’s support proved lucrative for both boxers.

Of the Ksh4 million President Ruto donated to the match, Ksh1 million is earmarked specifically for Majembe, while his opponent, Mbavu Destroyer, also received a Ksh1 million consolation prize.

In addition to the presidential gift, the official purse announced by event organizer Oga Obinna guarantees Majembe a Ksh1 million winner’s prize.

The 21-year-old’s haul extends to the garage, as a leading betting firm, a primary sponsor of the event has put up a Toyota Noah valued at approximately Ksh4 million.

The motor rewards don’t stop there; he is also expected to receive a Taro GP1 sport bike, worth over Ksh385,000.

Beyond these high-value assets, the champion’s package includes professional support through a one-year gym membership and a comprehensive supply of supplements.

The massive national interest in the Kasarani-based bout, fueled by President Ruto’s endorsement, has already opened doors for Majembe, who is currently being courted for multiple lucrative brand endorsements and advertising campaigns.

Notably, a host of political figures also poured resources into the “Vurugu” bout.

Support included Ksh2 million from Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, Ksh1 million from ODM’s Oburu Odinga, and smaller but significant contributions from George Ruto (Ksh500,000), Dorcas Gachagua (Ksh400,000), and Oketch Salah (Ksh200,000).

Additionally, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino boosted the crowd by purchasing over 500 tickets.

However, it is yet to be confirmed if these specific funds will serve as fighter bonuses or cover event logistics.

Despite his loss, Mbavu Destroyer also leaves with a bright future.

On top of the Ksh1 million consolation prize from President Ruto, the fighter leveraged the massive social media hype to secure several brand endorsements prior to the match, ensuring his financial success despite the second-place finish.
