Suspect Arrested, 255kg of Cannabis Seized in Kilifi

Authorities in Kilifi County have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 255 kilogrammes of cannabis.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the 29-year-old suspect, identified as Winfred Nkatha, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation in the Jimba area. 

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Malindi, working jointly with officers from Watamu Police Station, raided a residential house along Mwatela Road, off the Watamu–Gede Road.

During the raid, officers recovered eight sacks containing rolls of dry plant material wrapped in khaki paper, suspected to be cannabis. 

Subsequent weighing and sampling at Watamu Police Station confirmed the haul at 255 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh 7.65 million.

Winfred Nkatha remains in custody as investigations continue to determine the source of the narcotics and the intended distribution network.

The DCI emphasized its ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics. 

The agency also urged the public to continue providing credible information to aid the fight against illicit drugs.
