Gachagua Alleges Gikomba Upgrade Is Cover for Land Grab

Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, April 2, claimed that the Gikomba Market uplift project is part of a broader scheme to grab public land.

Speaking at Gikomba Market, Gachagua alleged that President William Ruto has an interest in the land adjacent to the Nairobi River.

He acknowledged that the government plans to construct a modern market as part of the upgrade.

However, he claimed that only a small portion of the land would be used for development, leaving a large section vulnerable to alleged takeover.

Gachagua added that he would seek to reclaim the land if elected president in 2027.

Talking of his criticism of the Social Health Authority (SHA),  Gachagua insisted that the system was not functioning effectively.

The DCP leader further accused Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale of downplaying concerns raised about the scheme.

Gachagua claimed that instead of addressing issues he had raised regarding alleged mismanagement of funds under the national medical insurance framework, Duale had shifted the discussion toward ethnic considerations.

CS Duale earlier questioned why United Opposition leaders were criticising the Social Health Authority (SHA) as dysfunctional while still benefiting from it.

He noted that former presidents, vice presidents, and deputy presidents are covered under the scheme.

Duale also revealed that a senior opposition leader had written to SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi seeking an increase in benefits.
