NPS Dismisses Claims of DCI Chief Mohammed Amin Resignation

The National Police Service (NPS) has refuted claims that the tenure of the current DCI boss, Amin Mohammed, is set to end on April 1.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, NPS said the reports were inaccurate, premature, speculative, and misleading, which might create unnecessary uncertainty and undermine public confidence in security institutions.

“The claim that Mr Amin’s tenure ‘ends today’ is factually inaccurate, premature, speculative, and misleading. Mohammed Amin continues to serve in office lawfully and is discharging his duties diligently in service to the country”, NPS stated.

“No newspaper, however influential, has the power to declare the end of a public officer’s tenure”, NPS added.

This comes after a story titled Tenure Ends for DCI Boss Haunted by Abductions, a story that appears not to have augured well with the senior leadership of the NPS as well as DCI in the Daily Nation.

According to NPS, the headline was reckless and unsubstantiated and tarnished the entire Directorate and the wider service.

NPS further clarified that all past genuine abduction cases have often been treated with seriousness and investigated to the core.

“Painting the DCI with a broad brush of ‘abductions’ ignores the Directorate’s significant achievements under Mr Amin’s leadership: enhanced forensic capabilities, the successful dismantling of major criminal syndicates, improved international co-operation (including his recent election to a key INTERPOL position), and the relentless pursuit of serious crimes affecting ordinary Kenyans”, the service further stated.
