NIS Officer Emerges From Hiding After Sonko’s Intervention in Acid Attack Probe

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has recounted how he lured the suspect allegedly linked to the acid attack on Claire-Mary, out of hiding.

In a post on X on March 24, 2026, the former Governor visited Claire-Mary, currently hospitalised at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

In his statement , Sonko revealed that he planned the arrest of Elvis Opiyo on March 22, and this happened after he tricked him to come to Nairobi.

He further revealed that Elvis-Opiyo was a National Intelligence Service (NIS).

With this, Sonko assured the victim, Claire-Mary that even if Opiyo works for NIS, he is not above the law.

“Elvis Opiyo says that he works for the NIS. Even if so, he is not above the law; no one sent him to come and burn you with acid. We will deal with him,” Sonko assured Claire.

According to reports, Kenyan gospel singer Claire Mary, a member of the Redemption Ministers SDA choir, was ambushed near Prestige Plaza on Ngong Road, Nairobi, on March 17,2026.

During the ambush, she was doused with a corrosive substance, in an incident which was reportedly , captured by surveillance cameras.

According to reports, the incident left Claire with severe facial and body injuries.

She is currently receiving specialised treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
