Kalonzo Musyoka Narrates High-Stakes Detention of Raphael Tuju at Karen Police Station

Wiper Party Kalonzo Musyoka has recounted how Former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Raphael Tuju almost lost his life while in police custody at Karen Police Station.

Kalonzo narrated before the court on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, that Tuju’s sugar levels reportedly dropped to a critical 1.9, a condition that could have led to his death within minutes if he had not received immediate medical intervention.

The sugar level was at 1.9. At one point, we were even told we might lose Tuju due to the very low sugar levels. We could have lost him within 5 minutes,” he said.

According to Kalonzo while narrating the accounts at Kibera Law Courts, police at the station declined to release Tuju to the hospital even as he showed signs of deteriorating health.

The former Vice President said that Tuju was bundled into a police car moments after holding a press conference to explain his whereabouts over the past 36 hours.

Kalonzo added that he personally drove Tuju to Karen Police Station to record a statement in good faith, but he was dramatically arrested by the officers who allegedly threatened to take him to DCI headquarters.

Moreover, the former CS missed the court proceeding, with his lawyers stating that he had been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his health deteriorated.

This was revealed by Kalonzo who stated that Tuju was currently under the care of doctors at the Karen Hospital, receiving treatment, and that was why he missed the court session.
