KNH Unveils Paperless System to Streamline Patient Care

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has officially launched a digital platform to streamline operations.

The digital system known as the Afya Apex HMIS/ERP system is expected to commence on March 20, 2026, marking a major milestone under the government’s aim to modernise healthcare delivery under the Taifa Care Initiative.

This follows a launch event on Tuesday, March 17, by KNH officials, an event that demonstrates a glimpse into how the system will streamline hospital services.

The new system will help patients as it will reduce waiting times, improve efficiency and enhance coordination across departments, while also speeding up emergency response and referrals.

Once fully implemented, the digital platform will integrate key departments, including Accident and Emergency (A&E), triage, patient registration, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy.

It will eliminate paperwork and significantly improve efficiency, accuracy, and patient experience.

Additionally, the system is expected to reduce delays, minimise errors associated with manual records, and enable faster decision-making by healthcare providers.

Furthermore, to support the transition, the hospital received 1,286 tablets equipped with power banks, alongside a 10-year free internet package to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and smooth system operations.
