Governor Nyong’o Speaks Out on Raphael Tuju Property Row

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has spoken out over the challenges currently facing former Foreign Affairs minister Raphael Tuju.

In recent days, Tuju has been attempting to stop auctioneers from selling his prime properties in Karen after the High Court in Nairobi approved the auction.

Early on Saturday, March 14, police officers reportedly raided one of the properties where Tuju had camped, as he resisted attempts to enforce the court order.

The involvement of police officers and the timing of the operation has raised questions in some quarters, with critics suggesting there could be ulterior motives behind the move.

Nyong’o expressed concern about what he described as the possible misuse of state institutions in the enforcement of the law.

The county boss also questioned the decision to deploy uniformed police officers to Raphael Tuju’s premises late at night, suggesting that the move raised concerns about the motive behind the operation.

The governor wondered why the matter had escalated in such a dramatic manner despite the existence of legal and procedural avenues for resolving such disputes.

Nyong’o argued that the involvement of uniformed police officers in what appears to be a civil dispute was worrying, noting that debt recovery and commercial disagreements are typically handled through established legal processes within the civil law framework.

He further raised concern over the use of late-night operations and displays of state authority in a matter of a civil nature, saying such actions were bound to attract public scrutiny.

Nyong’o questioned the legal basis under which such measures were being carried out.
