President William Ruto Directs Renaming of Shauri Moyo Estate in Honour of MP Ng’eno

Shauri Moyo is set to be renamed in honour of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno.

This followed President William Ruto’s directive who said during his speech at the burial of the late Ng’eno on Fiday, March 6, 2026.

According to the Head of State, the move was in recognition of the MP’s role in championing the affordable housing initiative.

The President added that the Estate will be renamed Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate, in appreciation of the deceased lawmaker’s leadership and commitment to ensuring the success of the housing project.

“Because Johana Ng’eno was the chairman who ensured that we succeeded in the housing project, we have recommended that one of the biggest estates in Nairobi, called Shauri Moyo, be named Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate,” Johana announced.

Ruto further directed the Lands and Housing Ministry, led by Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, to immediately initiate the renaming process, which will see Shauri Moyo Housing Estate rebranded.

“Therefore, I am directing the Ministry of Housing to rename Shauri Moyo to Johana Ng’eno estate in the city of Nairobi,” Ruto directed.

“This is in respect for the work he did, in which he presided over the construction of affordable houses. The Honourable Nge’no exercised his leadership role as the housing chairman,” the President added.

Member of Parliament (MP) Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026 in a plane crash.

Reports indicate that the helicopter had an emergency landing due to bad weather but when it took off again, it crashed and burst into flames.

MP Ng’eno who died alongside five others were buried on the same day on Friday, March 6, 2026.
