“As far as flooding is concerned, we have budgeted 1 billion shillings so far, just in case we get massive flooding. President William Ruto’s government is committed to ensuring that no resources will be spared to ensure Kenyans are not losing their lives, and the day-to-day activities they carry out are not interfered with. The government has spent Ksh9 billion shillings in drought intervention. We are likely to go to Ksh13 billion shillings as far as drought intervention is concerned,” he noted.

Geoffrey Ruku reassured Kenyans that the government has secured sufficient non-food supplies to assist households that may be displaced or impacted by flooding.

He indicated that key relief items are already in stock and can be deployed immediately in the event of an emergency.

According to Ruku, the available supplies include mattresses, blankets, tents, cooking utensils, and iron sheets, positioning the government to promptly support families likely to be affected by potential floods.

Beyond food distribution initiatives, CS Ruku noted that the government is broadening its intervention measures to support livestock farmers and vulnerable populations, particularly children and breastfeeding mothers.

He explained that in addition to supplying food to households, the state is facilitating the distribution of animal feed to cushion farmers, as well as fortified porridge flour aimed at improving nutrition for young children and lactating mothers.
