Major Security Operation Disrupts Al-Shabaab Terror Plan

Security agencies have disrupted planned large-scale terror attack targeting Nairobi.

This followed months of intelligence-led operations against a network linked to the Somalia-based extremist group Al-Shabaab.

According to a statement by the Counter Terrorism Policing, officers had been monitoring the activities of several individuals operating within the Dadaab refugee camps after intelligence reports pointed to a coordinated plot aimed at causing injuries among individuals.

Reports indicate that the operation involved sustained surveillance, undercover intelligence gathering and close coordination among multiple security units.

The operation led to the recover of 600 bullets, pistols, grenades, explosives and drugs during the operation.

“onths of surveillance and covert intelligence gathering on a terror network operating within the Dadaab refugee camps led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, including 600 bullets, pistols, grenades, explosives, and drugs, all destined for targets in Nairobi”, the statement read.

“Plans by the terrorist group Al-Shabaab to kill many Kenyans in Nairobi have once again been foiled by the intelligence agency,” the statement added.

Investigations further revealed that the terrorists were also exploring the possibility of kidnapping foreigners and hijacking vehicles.

“The terrorists, who had planned to carry out the attack during the month of Ramadhan, were also exploring possibilities of kidnapping foreigners and hijacking vehicles,” the agency said.

Several individuals linked to the network have since been arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.

However, the authorities assured the public that Nairobi remains secure, crediting the success of the operation to the dedication of officers who worked to protect the country.

They further urged the public to reports any suspicious activities inorder to safeguard the county.
