Russia Speaks Out After Social Media Storm Over Viral Footage

The Russian government has finally responded following widespread outrage over viral videos allegedly involving a Russian man and several women from Kenya and Ghana.

The clips, which have been widely shared across social media platforms, triggered strong public backlash, prompting both the Kenyan and Ghanaian governments to launch investigations into the matter.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 16, through its Embassy in Ghana, Russia acknowledged the reports circulating in local media concerning the alleged conduct of one of its citizens.

The embassy noted that it was aware of the allegations linking a supposed Russian national to inappropriate activities involving African women, with claims that the incidents were recorded without consent.

The development comes as authorities in Kenya and Ghana intensify efforts to establish the facts surrounding the videos and determine the individuals involved.

“The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Ghana has taken note of the reports in the Ghanaian media on the alleged involvement of a supposedly Russian citizen engaged in unethical activities and recorded those acts without consent,” read the statement by the Russian Embassy in Ghana.

The embassy noted the seriousness of the allegations but stopped short of confirming the identity of the man featured in the clips or verifying whether he is a Russian national.

The videos have continued to draw sharp criticism online in both Kenya and Ghana, with many social media users calling for swift investigations and accountability for those responsible.

According to reports, the footage was recorded discreetly and later circulated without the consent of the women involved, fueling anger not only in the two countries but also across the wider African continent.

In the clips, the man is seen approaching different women in public spaces, striking up casual conversations before suggesting private meetups at a short-stay apartment.

The videos reportedly show the Caucasian man engaging women in areas such as malls, streets, and supermarkets in Nairobi and Mombasa.

He is heard offering compliments, requesting their phone numbers, and eventually convincing them to accompany him to his residence, in some cases only hours after their first encounter.

Meanwhile, the government has directed a joint cross-border operation to track down the Russian national, with Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo condemning the incident as a serious breach of constitutional rights.
