Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH) has unveiled affordable housing project to provide homes for doctors, nurses, and other medical staff.
The initiative is set to be developed in partnership with the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development under the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
“KNH has begun the journey toward providing affordable housing for its staff, in a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery”, part of the statement read.
According to reports, the project is designed to ensure medical personnel can respond within minutes to attend to patients’ needs, particularly during critical emergencies when every second counts for survival.
Further reports indicate that the housing units are available in various typologies, ranging from social housing for slum residents to affordable apartments for middle-income professionals like doctors.
“This will enable medical personnel to respond within a short time to attend to patients’ needs, particularly during emergencies and critical situations.Once completed, the housing units will accommodate a substantial number of staff members, ensuring medical personnel are readily available incase of emergencies”, the statement added.
This forms part of President William Ruto’s broader Affordable Housing Programme, which has expanded to include specific allocations for public sector workers across the country.
